Casey Kelly (33-LG Twins) didn’t fulfill the win requirement, but he brightened his prospects with a third straight quality start (six or more innings pitched and three or fewer earned runs allowed).
Kelly started the 2023 KBO League regular season home game against the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, on Nov. 31 and pitched six innings of seven-hit ball, striking out four and walking one. It was his third consecutive quality start, following his quality starts against the Samsung Lions on April 17 and the Lotte Giants on April 24.
It wasn’t without a crisis. Although he didn’t have a save, the Doosan bats pressured him a few times. After a scoreless first inning, Kelly faced a bases-loaded situation in the second. After leading off the inning with a single by Kim Jae-hwan, Doosan loaded the bases with a double by Heo Kyung-min and an infield single by Cho Su-hyun. Fortunately, shortstop Oh Ji-hwan was quick on his feet to cut off Cho’s line drive to center field. It was a big inning, but Kelly saved the day. He threw three consecutive low changeups to Jung Soo-bin, who has been hitting well of late, and got him to fly out to left field to end the inning.
In the third inning, there was another crisis. Leadoff hitter Kim Jae-ho reached on a throwing error by first baseman Austin Dean. After Jae-ho survived, Jose Rojas followed with a single. Kelly got out of the jam himself. He got the No. 4 hitter, Yang, to pop out to shortstop with a curveball, and the next batter, Yang Seok-hwan, flied out to left field.
After getting out of a pair of jams, Kelly retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth innings. He then took the mound in the sixth inning. He struck out Rojas and Yang, leaving only one out for a quality start. However, he had to give up a run. Two batters later, Yang lined a Kelly curveball over the third baseman for a double down the left field line. Kim Jae-hwan then did the opposite, hitting two consecutive fastballs from Kelly that were up in the zone and plating Yang with a single to right field.토토사이트
Through’s one run put him in danger of losing the game. Kelly, who was 8-7 with a 4.39 ERA before this game, lowered his ERA slightly to 4.28, but he left the mound in the seventh inning after opposing starter Kwak Bin pitched six scoreless innings to reach the eight-loss requirement.
