It was the final piece of the championship puzzle. With a relatively thin starting pitching depth in Korea, the LG Twins acquired Choi Won-tae in a trade to bolster their bullpen, but he hasn’t been having much fun in the Korean Series. Choi was pulled after failing to make it out of the first inning in Game 2, and then struggled with his pitches in a game-winning inning in Game 4. Now, he has no chance to start the Korean Series.
Choi Won-tae pitched the ninth inning of the 2023 Shinhan Bank Korea Series against the KT Wiz at Katie Wiz Park in Suwon on Nov. 11 to close out the game with a 15-3 lead. However, Choi struggled with his command of his pitches, giving up a walk to leadoff hitter Choi Sung-ho and a single to the next batter, Song Min-seob. With runners on first and second, Choi got Shin Bon-ki to ground out to shortstop for the second out. But with runners on first and third, Choi Won-tae gave up a sacrifice fly to left field to Lee Ho-yeon. Choi then got Kim Jun-tae to ground out to third base to prevent any further damage.
Despite giving up walks to the first two batters, Choi was able to get the final out of the inning. After talking to Choi Won-tae after the game, Oh Ji-hwan said, “The bases were loaded, and I was wondering how he was going to handle it, but the ball looked good against the last two batters. When I talked to him afterward, he said, ‘I should have pitched the game like I did when I got the out. I think he’ll get better in the future,” he said, praising his teammate for pitching through the tough conditions.
In fact, Choi Won-tae was scheduled to start Game 6. 보스토토 주소 The reason he went to the bullpen was to see if he could be a starter. Before Game 4, manager Yoon Kyung-yeop said, “Won-tae Choi will start Game 6.”
However, after seeing Choi Won-tae’s pitching in Game 4, the manager changed his mind. “I think we shouldn’t use Choi Won-tae. Looking at the game, I think I have to think about it. I don’t think it’s his pitching balance. There is a lot of pressure to use him as a starting pitcher. I’ll think about whether or not to start the sixth game,” revealing that he will not use Choi Won-tae as a starter.
