IOC suspends ROC for…”violation of the territorial integrity of the NOC of Ukraine”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

In a statement on Wednesday, the IOC ordered the ROC to be suspended until further notice, according to TASS. The ROC was suspended with immediate effect, according to the statement.

The sanctions are in response to the inclusion of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) and the Ukrainian regions of Zaporizhia and Kherson in the ROC’s jurisdiction.

The IOC characterized Russia’s inclusion of the new regions as “a violation of the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee (NOC).”

“The ROC is no longer eligible to act as an NOC as defined in the Olympic Charter and is not entitled to receive any funding from the ‘Olympic Movement,'” the statement said.안전놀이터

The IOC added that it reserved the right to decide whether Russian athletes could compete as neutrals at the Paris 2024 and Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo 2026 Olympic Games.

While the ROC has stated that it will not boycott the Paris Games, the IOC appears to be cautious about allowing Russian athletes to participate.

Previously banned from international competitions, the ROC sought to participate in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, but did not receive an invitation.
