Jeonbuk B Team + Youngsung High School to compete in the 2023 Otten Innovation Cup… to face Manchester United, PSV and more

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC departed on Wednesday (Nov. 16) for the 2023 Otten Innovation Cup, an international youth competition.

The ‘Otten Cup’ is a long-established international youth (U19) tournament that has been held annually by PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands since 1947 and is now in its 73rd year.

Cody Gakpo (Liverpool) and Memphis Depay (Atletico Madrid), who are currently dominating the European stage, were born from this tournament.

Jeonbuk was invited to participate in the tournament by PSV Eindhoven, with whom the club signed a partnership in April.

The Auten Cup is a U19 competition, but Jeonbuk does not field a U19 team in South Korea, so the club will compete with 18 players from its B team (11) and U18 Youngsanggo (7).

The lineup for the 2023 Authentic Innovation Cup, which returns after a four-year hiatus, is stacked.

In addition to hosts PSV Eindhoven and Jeonbuk, the tournament will feature Manchester United (England), Utrecht (Netherlands), Anderlecht (Belgium), Rangers (Scotland), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Red Bull Bragantino (Brazil).

The tournament, which runs from Friday, June 18 through Sunday, June 20, will feature group stage play in Groups A and B, followed by a tournament to determine the final standings.

Jeonbuk is in Group B and will play against Manchester United, PSV Eindhoven, and Copenhagen.

The tournament will feature unconventional rules, especially since the word “innovation” is included in the tournament name.

Playing time will be stopped for every stoppage of play, dribbling will be allowed during free kicks, yellow cards will result in a five-minute suspension, and substitutions will be allowed after 10 minutes if a player accumulates yellow cards.

“Playing against new teams that we haven’t seen before is a great opportunity for our players to grow,” said Jeonbuk B team head coach Ahn Dae-hyun, who is leading the squad to the Otten Cup. “I hope this tournament will be a valuable experience for the players and give them a chance to grow to the next level.”

Jeonbuk’s participation in the youth international tournament is the latest in a series of exchanges with PSV Eindhoven, following the club’s invitation to Korea in June.안전놀이터

Meanwhile, the Jeonbuk B team has rescheduled its K4 League match against the Daejeon Hana Citizens B team from Sunday, October 20, to Saturday, October 14, in order to participate in the Otten Cup.
