MAD FS dominates ‘Gatorade 5v5 Women’s Tournament 2023’ in Busan, South Korea

MAD FS is crowned champions of the 2023 Gatorade 5v5 Women’s Tournament Busan.

MAD FS defeated Leopalacio FS 2-1 in the Busan regional final of the 2023 Gatorade 5v5 Women’s Championship, Korea’s premier amateur women’s futsal tournament, with Jung In-ae scoring the game-winning goal just before the end of the match at HM Futsal Park Busan Buk-gu. MAD FS took home the trophy and $1 million in prize money. They also earned a ticket to the National Championship on November 4.

Leopalacio FS, who played in the final against MAD FS, is a local women’s futsal powerhouse from Busan that was considered a favorite before the tournament began. The two teams exchanged one goal each. The game was decided when MAD FS’s Jung In-ae scored the winning goal just before the end of the match. With this victory, MAD FS, which is based in Daegu, has won six consecutive national and regional tournaments including other competitions. Kim Sun-hwa, who won the MVP award, said, “This is the result of the team’s hard work as a unit. “It was a tough road to the championship. We had a lot of draws in the qualifiers, and one loss could have eliminated us, but we are a team that is weak against weak teams and strong against strong teams. After entering the tournament, we focused on playing against strong teams.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, FC Mande won the Cheonan Regional Tournament at The Pitch Cheonan Sindbang, taking the title for the second consecutive year. After qualifying in Busan and Changwon, the Gatorade 5v5 Women’s World Cup 2023 will continue in Jeonju and Ulsan (Oct. 28).
