Manoa pitches 5-hit shutout…Toronto defeats Boston 7-3

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Boston Red Sox behind a strong pitching performance from Alec Manoa and five home runs.

Toronto won the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series against Boston, 7-3, on Friday (May 5) at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Toronto improved to 61-50. Boston (57-52) has lost two straight.

Manoa, who has struggled of late, pitched a strong game. In 6⅔ innings, he allowed three runs on six hits (two home runs) with five strikeouts and two walks for his first quality start (six or more innings pitched and three earned runs or less).

It was Manoa’s first quality start in four games since May 8 against the Detroit Tigers and his third win of the season (8-0).

The Toronto offense pounded the Boston mound for 14 hits, including five home runs.

Boston starter James Paxton was tagged for four runs on nine hits, including three home runs, in five innings to fall to 3-6 on the season.

Toronto jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning on two home runs. Leadoff hitter Whit Merrifield blasted a solo home run to left field, and with one out, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. launched a solo shot over the left-center field fence.

They added another run in the top of the second. Davis Schneider followed with a solo home run.

After falling behind 2-3 in the bottom of the third when Manoa hit a two-run homer off Jared Duran, Toronto regained the lead in the top of the fourth when George Springer doubled to left field with two outs.

Toronto tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth on leadoff hitter Dolton Bashaw’s solo home run to right and an RBI double by Guerrero Jr.토토사이트

Boston pulled within one run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run by Yu-Cheng Zhang, but Toronto made it 7-3 in the top of the ninth on a Matt Chapman solo home run to center field.
