Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton Wanderers), who is off to his best start of the season, has revealed the secret behind his rise.
Hwang Hee-chan, who is preparing for the October AFCON, held a pre-training press conference at the National Training Center (NFC) in Paju on Tuesday. The South Korean national soccer team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann, will face Tunisia and Vietnam on Oct. 13 and 17, respectively.
“This is my fourth call-up with the coach, and I want to do a good job this time,” Hwang said, adding, “As time goes by, we have to show better and better, and I think we can do that.”
His confidence is well-founded. This season, Hwang has been in scoring form. He has six goals in nine official matches, including five in eight league games. He recently scored in three consecutive games. He is tied for fourth in the English Premier League (EPL) in goals scored. He’s one goal behind second-place Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur).
Klinsmann holds the second and fourth spots on the EPL scoring list. “It’s hard to say that me and (Son) Heung-min are competing with each other,” Hwang said. “I think I’m doing what I need to do, and I think Heung-min can be helpful to him,” he added.
“I’m sure Heung-min will try his best to score the most goals, but I will also try to score the most goals in my career,” he added.
Hwang credits acclimatization as the driving force behind his early season form. “It’s my third season in England,” he said, “and it’s time to adapt and show good form.” “If I can keep playing and not get sick, I’m confident that I can give a good performance and the results are good,” he added.스포츠토토
There was a downside to the upswing. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola called Hwang “Korean Guy” before the game against Wolverhampton because he couldn’t think of his name. Coincidentally, Hwang scored the game-winning goal against City.
“He might not have remembered my name at the moment,” Hwang laughed, “but in a way, I was honored that the coach, who has been the best coach in the world for a long time, mentioned me by name,” he said. “I also gained confidence,” he said, vowing to do better.
